Very pleased to announce that I've been shortlisted for SFTN's 2016 new film talent programme. Here I'll be taking my short film The Möbius Trip into development.
I've returned from Finland where I spent a month in the beautiful environment of Haukijärvi. A month long winter artist residency (silence awareness existence) run by Arteles, where I developed my first feature film idea and spent my time getting to know 12 amazing artists from all over the world, China, Denmark, Columbia, US, Australia, and Korea. How I felt in this place, I can't even describe. It was just incredible and being there really felt like a twist of fate or something. To have been there at the exact same time with all these amazing people I fell in love with...learning so much from their way of thinking, their views on art, on life, having so much fun, and coming home with the best memories. Thank you Finland.
Just wrapped our short film SLAP and the shoot went brilliantly!! Written, produced and directed by myself, and shot by David Lee. SLAP is a gritty surreal psycho-drama set in the atmospheric location of Scotland Street Museum. More details to come but meanwhile here is a pic of my spooky crew. :D
I'm freelancing part-time as a drama teacher for the Scottish Youth Theatre where throughout September, October and November I travel to schools, community groups and youth theatres across Scotland delivering free drama workshops. I've been loving this experience getting to work with amazing young people and drama teaching professionals. Yesterday we did movement workshops with third year students around the theme of 'Conflict' and the final pieces produced were just so effecting and emotional. I think we all cried!!! It was a special day. Thank you to SYT for this opportunity. I feel inspired every time.
My short story 'HANGING PLANT' gets published in Bleak Bleak Bleak's 2015 Summer issue. A magazine for art, poetry and discourse.
I'm so pleased to announce that I've been offered an artist's residency placement at Arteles in Finland to develop my first feature film screenplay! The theme of the residency is around silence, awareness and existence, which ties in perfectly with my film's concept... an existential sci-fi drama about a woman's search for the meaning of her existence, addicted to emotionally destructive experiences whilst under the control of an emotionally repressed system. This placement will give me the space to hone in on her inner conflicts, her fears and desires...drawing out my own fears and desires as I reside there...contemplating alone...and feeding them into her character. The residency will take place over the winter period of 2015/2016 in the perfect cinematic setting where I'll work in solitude, surrounded by the amazing Finnish wintry countryside, dark skies, lakes and northern lights. I look forward to embracing this experience and hopefully by the end of it, I will have come up with a stronger, more focused screenplay narrative filled with so much passion and soul :D !! My first feature film. Thank you for the kindness of Arteles for offering me this magical time and space ahead.
It was a privilege to be invited on the jury panel at Shorts On Tap's Women's Day Celebration event at London's 93 Feet East. Had a great time watching a seriously strong selection of films. Well done to everyone who made it onto the programme...I went home feeling inspired and stimulated.... :D and that's how it should be!!! Creative juicy vibes all round, thank you Laaandaaan! :) XX
Hey folks, after deciding to go vegan in 2014, I began volunteering for Scotland for Animals. A brilliant charity focused on raising awareness for all the issues and injustices faced by animals throughout Scotland. I made this short film to help them promote awareness of cruelty that goes on in abattoirs, and most hopefully, to encourage people to take action. So glad they're happy with it and will be sharing via their site and other animal rights focused channels. Big thanks to Tina (founder of Scotland for Animals) for her support in making this. Thanks so much for watching and sharing. xxx

On Thursday afternoon, I enjoyed a brilliant masterclass by JAN HARLAN (he was STANLEY KUBRICK'S producer for 30 years!!) so you can imagine the kind of pleasure and excitement it felt to be in his presence :D one of my favourite lines of his: "Intellectual knowledge of art means nothing, but if you fall in love with a film or a painting...to L O V E the art... that's what matters, it means everything... " A great way to spend the afternoon, and forget all about stuff like buying Christmas presents! :) great great day xx
Susan Sarandon and Gina Davis are perfect in this. Just so seriously cool and so seriously free. Love love love it!!!!!!! :)
RED has been selected to screen at New York's amazing Anthology Film Archives as part of the NewFilmmakers Summer program series on August 19th 2014. The center focuses on the preservation, study, and exhibition of film and video, with a particular focus on independent, experimental, and avant-garde cinema. And is one of the largest archives of cinema in the world. This was my most loved venue in New York... quality independent films and Q&As every week within such a cool rustic atmospheric setting. Loved watching Kenneth Anger films here... Such a privilege for RED :) Thank you!
On the road from Taghazout to Imsouane to Sidi Kaouki to Essaouira. Haggling, burning, a little bit of surfing:) <3 remembering trendy days in Manhattan and Brooklyn...that urban concrete swarm...a sharp contrast to where I am now in Morocco, barren, vast, simple ...what a funny little planet... So today I wake up in my hotel room which is pas trop cher and feels so nice I finally enjoy the feeling of sitting quietly...ready to face the emptiness of this little screen before me. Feeling the warmth here, and I hope you do too, wherever you are. Simone x
Very pleased to announce that I’ve been awarded funding from the Arts Trust of Scotland supporting me in the development of new works – future films and multi-arts theatre projects.
Thank you so so much! :)
